"Ning"

There are those moments you wish could last forever. Tonight I got to put Owen to bed. And that is a rare occasion. Being a pastor doesn't always prove favorable for the evenings. And since I am usually out at prayer meetings or visitations, I don't always get to. However, when I do get the chance, I like to put him to bed. And tonight was one of those nights. Usually mommy puts him to sleep. And that is what he likes. However, I like the chance when I get it.

After the three of us had prayer together, I took him and told him I was going to put him to bed. He wasn't that excited about it. However, after we sat in the rocking chair, he was fine. So, I continued in my moment. I held him there and began singing to him. I usually don't sing a particular song, but I just make up one as I go. There have been times when I have sung before and he has not been that interested. He simply told me once after I got started, No, no! I think that was his way of telling me he wasn't enjoying my lullabies. However, I still sing. Mommy reads the books. Daddy does the singing. I know that is kind of backwards for most parents. However, that is what works for us. Well, tonight when I finally got Owen calmed down from wanting mommy to put him down, and being stuck with daddy, I began singing my improve music. After I finished the first song, he looked up as he was laying on my lap, and said, "ning, ning." I asked, "What?" And he said, "ning." I said, "you want me to sing." And he replied, "yea."

That made my night. And I was glad to sing my made up songs for the next 15 minutes until he was ready to go to bed. I feel blessed and I thank God for all the moments I get to spend with my son. I guess I'm going to "ning" as long as he lets me.
