Norv - Being himself and sticking to the plan

I just read an article by Rick Riley from ESPN. Since I am a Chargers fan, I was intrigued by this article. Norv has always been an interesting man. He is not always a loved coach. Not because he is not a nice man, but because he doesn't always win. He hasn't had the best of luck coaching in Washington or Oakland. But, people have suggested the organizations were terrible when he was in those two cities. However, even though he has done good this year, he still has his haters. Local San Diego fans have even created a website specifically to fire Norv.

However, I haven't really known what to think of him. You always want your team to have the best coach. And, I obviously want the Chargers to win. And they have done well under him. They have been to the playoffs all 3 of his years as the coach. They have beat the Colts twice in the last 3 years. And wining the last 11 games this year, he seems to be good. No one should complain. But, after reading this article, I had a new appreciation for the man. It seems like you get to know him a little better. And you can see why his team supports him so much.

Even though he might have a bad hair style, or his name is Norv, you have to appreciate what this man has gone through and is today. I'm not claiming that we need to idolize him. But, it is fun to read about how normal some of these people can be. You never know what some people have gone through.

So here are some thoughts.
1. Why do we often judge? Why do we praise when every thing is going well? That is not just in sports, but in many things in life.
2. But, looking at Norv, I think he does set a good example for each of us. No matter what people say, stick to the plan. Believe what you are doing is right. Don't give in to all the criticism. Don't try to change who you are just because you loose a game.
